View Historic Deer Population Information
Location: Route is 18.2 miles long and covers most of Kiawah Island
Participants: Jim Jordan (TOKI), Aaron Given (TOKI), Amy Given
Notes:
A total of 140 deer were seen during this 3 night survey, including 43 bucks, 60 does, 7 fawns, and 30 that were unidentified. The overall density of 54 deer per square mile is almost identifcal to prior year surveys conducted in September.  Densities from 2006-2008 were 55, 54, and 48 deer per square mile respectively.  Other notable sightings included 2 bobcats (one of which was wearing a GPS collar) and a buck swimming across a tidal creek.  Additional details are provided below.
