EASTERN BLUEBIRD BANDING
A dedicated group of volunteers monitors a series of bluebird boxes on the grounds all five golf courses, Night Heron Park, the Sanctuary, and the Preserve.  Bluebirds prefer open areas which is limited to these areas on Kiawah Island.  The boxes provide an artificial nesting cavity for bluebirds and other cavity nesting birds.

In the summer of 2011, we began banding bluebird chicks at Night Heron Park.  In future years, we hope to band both adults and young and expand the project into additional areas.
