MEET THE 2013 BOBCATS

The Town of Kiawah Island, in partnership with the Kiawah Conservancy, initiated a Bobcat GPS study in 2007.  Over the last 7 years, more than 50,000 individual GPS locations have been collected from 52 bobcats. View 2009-2010 Bobcat Location Data.  View 2011 Bobcat Location Data. View 2012 Location Data.
 
Trapping for the 2013 season began on Janaury 28, 2013 and is ongoing.  This page provides details on each bobcat captured.

* January 29, 2013 - This adult female was captured near Willet Pond.  She was fitted with Collar 300.  She was also collared during 2012 as Bobcat 300 and named "McKenzie".

* January 29, 2013 - This adult male (24 lbs, 4 oz) was captured on Captain Sam's Spit. He was fitted withCollar 850.  He was also collared during 2012 as Bobcat 750.
* January 30, 2013 - This adult female was captured on Captain Sam's Spit.  She was fitted with Collar 450.  This female was originally PIT tagged as a kitten on Flyway Drive on April 6, 2010 and is the offspring of 2010 Bobcat 220. 
* January 30, 2013 - This adult female was captured near Parkside Villas.  She was fitted withCollar 700.  She was also collared during 2012 as Bobcat 800.
* January 30, 2013 - This juvenile female (11 lbs, 2 oz) was captured in The Preserve.  She was too small to collar and was released.  She was originally PIT tagged as a kitten on Marsh Elder Court on April 25, 2012 and is the offspring of 2012 Bobcat 350.

* January 31, 2013 - This juvenile male was captured on Flyway Drive. He was too small to collar and was released.  This young male was originally PIT tagged as a kitten on July 10, 2012 and is the offspring of 2013 Bobcat 300.

* February 1, 2013 - This adult male was captured on Flyway Drive. He was fitted with Collar 750.  This bobcat was originally collared on March 21, 2008 as a juvenile.  He was also collared during 2009 (270), 2010 (170), and 2011 (850).

* February 2, 2013 - This adult female was captured on Willet Island. She was fitted with Collar 900.  This bobcat was originally collared in April, 2008 as Bobcat 340.  She was also collared during 2009 (220).

* February 2, 2013 - This adult male (20 lbs) was captured in The Preserve.  He had not been captured before and was PIT tagged and released.
